Low Calorie Hot Beverages For The Cold Season

Peppermint Hot chocolate

Ingredients

1 cup skimmed milk (use almond milk or coconut milk if you’re vegan)
¼ cup water
4 dates (remove the seeds)
1 ½ tablespoons cocoa powder
½ teaspoon peppermint extract/ essence

Directions

In a cooking pan, add the milk and dates and bring to a simmer, not a boil.

White still hot, pour this into a blender.

Add the cocoa powder and peppermint extract/ essence then blend the ingredients till frothy.

Serve in a mug.

 

Turmeric Latte

Ingredients

1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon ginger
Pinch of cloves
2 tablespoons honey
2 dates (remove seeds)

Instructions

In a cooking pan, add the milk and dates and bring to a simmer, not a boil.

White still hot, pour this into a blender.

Add the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and cloves then blend the ingredients.

Serve in a mug or cup.

 

Lemon spiced tea

Ingredients

2 cups water
2 teabags
Juice of 3 lemons
1 tablespoons honey
½ teaspoon lemon/ lime extract/ essence
2 cinnamon sticks
Lemon slice for garnish

Instructions

In a saucepan, add the water, lemon juice, lemon/ lime extract and cinnamon.

Bring to a boil then lower the heat and leave the tea boiling for about 2 and a half minutes in very low heat.

Serve in a cup and add the honey and lemon slice as garnish.

 

Chai Latte

Ingredients

¾ cup skimmed milk
½ cup water
1 tea bag
1 cinnamon stick
½ teaspoon ground fresh ginger
Pinch fennel seeds
4 whole cloves
6 cardamom pods, crushed
1 ½ tablespoon honey (optional)
1 pinch of nutmeg and 1 pinch of cinnamon for garnish.

Instructions

Put all the ingredients (except those for garnish) in a sauce pan and boil over medium heat.

Once the milk boils, remove it from the flame and let it seep for 5 to 10 minutes.

Strain into a mug and add the honey.
